Ceramicist and teacher, Doreen Blumhardt enters the Order of New Zealand

In December 2006, Doreen Blumhardt gained New Zealand's highest honour for her contribution to education and pottery over the past 70 years.
In recent years, Doreen's vision has led to the establishment of The Blumhardt Foundation; developed to support the participation in and understanding of decorative arts and design in New Zealand.
In partnership with TheNewDowse this has led to the opening of the Blumhardt Gallery at TheNewDowse.
The gallery willl feature changing exhibitions of decorative arts and design, many curated by the recipients of the annual Creative New Zealand Blumhardt Foundation curatorial internship.
She joins a much esteemed group of New Zealanders that include opera singer Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, theologian Lloyd Gerring and author Margaret Mahy.
