TheNewDowse has just received an Excellence Awardat the New Zealand Property Council Awards for it highly functional, community-minded design.

Re-developed over a period of 18 months to the tune of 6 million dollars, TheNewDowse now has over 60% more exhibition space and houses 11 galleries, several workshop spaces, conference facilities and a world-class café & shop.
Entered in the Education and Arts category, TheNewDowsewas recognised for the way that the design catered successfully to a variety of groups.
“The award acknowledged the cleverness of the project and the way the design found solutions to this project’s particular needs,” Chief Judge of The New Zealand Property Council Awards John Dunn says.
Tim Walker, The Director of TheNewDowse, said the award reinforced many of the values of TheNewDowse.
“This is wonderful recognition of the many people involved in creating TheNewDowse”, he says.
“From the outset it was always important this was a highly flexible building with spaces that catered for a variety of groups. It needed to have great spaces for exhibitors, as well as be welcoming and appropriate for a wide range of audiences, from toddlers to business people. The architects (Athfield Architects) and builders (Mainzeal) really rose to the challenge. The award is a real testament to the fact we’ve achieved a highly functional and cost-effective outcome.”
