Sinfonia Antarctica

12 April - 30 August

The unfathomable, untouched and un-tamable landscape that is Antartica is brought to life using words, paintings, photographs, music and sculpture in this multi-disciplinary exhibition.

Responding to life on ‘terra incognita’ under the ‘Artists to Antarctica’ scheme, ten NZ artists, writers and musicians richly illustrate this alien icescape with an artistic medley that touches on everything from the global warming to the Erebus disaster.

Sprinkled with snippets of poetry, hung with gargantuan prints of ice caps and filled with an atmospheric soundtrack, Sinfonia Antarctica, showcases this great white continent as seen through the eyes of painters Dick Frizzell, Nigel Brown and Grahame Sydney, ceramist Raewyn Atkinson, writers Bill Manhire and Chris Orsman, jeweller Kirsten Haydon, textile artist Clare Plug and photographers Anne Noble, Andris Apse and Joyce Campbell
