Cafe Scientifique >> CSI in Hutt City

Wednesday, 30 July, 6pm, FREE [Meet at Cafe Reka]

Counterfeit pharmaceuticals & criminal investigations...

Guest Speaker : Dr Dallas Mildenhall,
GNS Science, Lower Hutt

In Hutt City we have our own forensic scientists, squirreled away in laboratories working to solve mysteries and crime.

Come along to Cafe Scientifique, and hear Dr Dallas Mildenhall from GNS Science speak about his fascinating work using pollen grains and spores to assist the police to catch rapists and murderers. He also specialises in detecting and sourcing physical contaminants in counterfeit “life saving” drugs and other “health” products that are also contaminated with chemicals, including carcinogens, toxins and inactive pharmaceuticals.

More than ever before our imaginations have been captured by the science of crime solving. Television is saturated with crime dramas giving us tantalizing, if inaccurate, insights into the lives of forensic scientists and every night the news seems to have another drug, rape or murder scandal.

Join us for some true life insights into this fascinating field.

Proudly supported by GNS Science, the Royal Society of New Zealand Wellington Branch, TheNewDowse, Cafe Reka and Hutt City Council.
