This is the dog, that worried the cat, that killed the rat, that ate the malt…that lies in The Dowse exhibition of The House That Jack Built!
This popular exhibition celebrates this wildly popular picture book; a New Zealand retelling of the classic rhyming tale by acclaimed author and illustrator Gavin Bishop. Featuring 21 of Gavin’s original works in pen and ink wash on display, as well as a te reo Māori translation of his text, the exhibition encourages visitors to step into the pages of this children’s tale.
Travel with Jack through his new home Aotearoa, New Zealand, rich with the culture of the tāngata whenua. See how Jack his foreign animals and goods change the landscape. Meet the cow with the crumpled horn - Aotearoa styles! Watch how Māori and Pakeha live together with their different cultures.
