The Home Fire

The Home Fire exhibition took you on a journey through the Hutt Valley. Where you found some of the many individuals, groups and companies that have made creative contributions to the culture of the Valley over the past hundred years.
The special culture of any place is made up of the contributions of thousands of people. The Home Fire draws together a wide range of our people working across time, class, ethnic group and fields of creative endeavour.
Not everyone stays in one place. Some of these artists were born here and left as young adults to go on to become international stars. Others have arrived from elsewhere, full of ideas and stories to tell, and stayed a while or settled for good. Then there are those who have passed through but who have stayed long enough to contribute to – and share in – the culture of the Valley.
