Subjects and Objects
2 June – 12 August 2001
In 2000 guest curator Deborah Crowe selected grammar, with all its intricacies and nuances, as the central theme for the 4th New Zealand Jewellery Biennale. Forming an analogy between jewellery and grammar as intermediaries between subjects and objects, Deborah Crowe assembled a dynamic and cross-disciplinary exhibition that presented jewellery as subject, as object and as both subject and object. In her exploration of jewellery as subject, Deborah Crowe, in a first for the biennale, included jewellery makers and artists.
