Lee Jensen's Accidental Move Into Fashion

Lee Jensen, Fleet 2007

Graphic artist Lee Jensen has made an unforeseen move into fashion, after Starfish’s director Laurie Foon saw his work on the walls of TheNewDowse.

The Visual Communications Lecturer at Massey and part-time artist was been unwittingly launched into the fashion arena, after Foon saw his graphic art works decorating the walls of TheNewDowse and approached him about creating a new line of clothing.

He says his brightly coloured designs which draw on Chinese symbolism and patterns of Pacific Island tattoos, may well be soon seen on the backs of fashionistas as soon as the middle of this year.

Currently, the designs are being mocked up, after which they will workshopped to determine which prints will go into full-scale production.

Having worked as a graphic designer for around 20 years, Jensen only began exhibiting his work in 2004, while he was working on a Masters in Fine Arts at Massey University.

His recent exhibitions include 'Deliquesce' with Richard Reddaway at Show gallery in Wellington, 'Walk The Line' with Kate Woods at Michael Hirschfeld Gallery, and participation in 'Satellite' in Shanghai, 2006.
