Unleash the craft hounds, it’s time for the Craft 2.0 Spring Session. Craft2.0 brings together independent artisans and makers for a relaxing day of offline browsing, chatting, networking and shopping. With crafty kids’ activities and an Outdoor Knit, the event runs from 11am to 3pm Saturday 24 October at TheNewDowse.
More than 60 booths are selling everything from glittering unicorn pins to hand-printed T shirts. If you’re a fan of indie fashion and accessories, then you've found your DIY paradise. Discover a talented mix of vendors handpicked by a select jury for their homespun talents, including punk rock baby clothes for that little Sid or Nancy Jr, whimsical and demented plush toys and avant-garde art.
The best part is meeting the crafters behind the styles and finding out “how did you do that?” The team from Outdoor Knit are on hand to teach you some new tricks or get you started if you’ve never picked up the tools before. Needles and wool are supplied so all you need to do is bring your enthusiasm.
Crafting runs deep in most families so this time the kids get out of their parents’ shadows with their very own stall. Ruby, whose mum Shelley sells as Sweet William, will be selling "Stinky Fish" - funky deep sea fishy creatures painted on driftwood. She collects the wood from the beach in Paekakariki, then paints and draws her design and coats it with a bit of modge podge. Finn and Marlo, whose mum Martha runs Petone shop Wanda Harland and the cool kids range Babylicious, will also be selling their own creations. Inspire your kids to think of a world beyond Playstation…
In the make-and-do section, create your own magical mask. Whether you're a bird lover or are just looking for something exotic, feather masks are a great craft project and work well as costume pieces or decorations. Children of all ages are invited and must be accompanied by a caregiver, with no registration necessary. Materials will be provided but feel free to bring any special items you would like to use to embellish your masterpiece.
The first 100 people through the door at 11am receive a FREE goodie bag from Craftrunner chock full of treats, including goodies from felt.co.nz, Cafe Reka, Teza iced tea, Supervery, Emma Makes and more. There is also tons of to-die-for swag in the Craft2.0 raffle so get your craft on and get out to TheNewDowse on Saturday!
