Accessibility

The Dowse is accessible for people in wheelchairs. A wheelchair is available from the front desk for use in the gallery and there is lift access. Guide and hearing dogs are welcome. Contact us if you have concerns around accessibility and we will do our best to cater for you.

Children

Children are always welcome at The Dowse. Toilets have baby changing facilities and breastfeeding is welcome. The upstairs lounge has hands-on activities for children and is a comfortable place to sit, rest or chat. The exhibition programme always has something of interest to children and DIY activities are available from the front desk. Tours

Depending on how busy the front of house team is, we are happy to guide you through the galleries, just come and ask. At busier times, and for group tours, please contact us to make a booking.

How To Find Us

The Dowse is in Lower Hutt, a 15–20 minute car journey from central Wellington or Upper Hutt via State Highway 2, click here for maps and more details.

What Else To Expect

FREE WI-FI and plenty of seating throughout the galleries. There is a cafe on the ground floor and the shop sells quirky designer gifts, cards and arts publications. We encourage you to take photos during your visit, but please not of Nuku Tewhatewha.
