Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon 2019

Help up the content created about women on Wikipedia and in particular wāhine identifying women in the arts.

We'd like to see greater diversity in Wiki content. Come join us to highlight the vast cache of wāhine Māori, Pasifika & those identifying as women who may be left out of mainstream narratives. We'll help you create eligible content for Wikipedia!

Why? Wikipedia’s gender trouble is well-documented. A 2011 survey by the Wikimedia Foundation found that less than 10 percent of its contributors were women. While the reasons for the gender gap are up for debate, the practical effect of this disparity is not: content is skewed by the lack of representation from women.

Let’s change that.

Format of event: We will learn from expert wikipadeian Siobhan Leachman (Ambrosia10) how the wiki community works. You will then be given the opportunity to edit wikipedia yourselves, adding content and citing sources to improve articles on women in the arts. We will provide a range of resources for Aotearoa/NZ's amazing wāhine identifying artists. You can add the content to wiki! We will send more information 2 weeks prior to the event.
